Is Claude Pro worth it?

In short: Claude Pro is worth it if you often run out of free usage or want Projects and research features. It's A$30.00 a month or A$349.99 a year in the Australian App Store; Anthropic's US web price is US$20 a month.

What it costs

US web price (Anthropic's pricing page):

• US$20 a month billed monthly, or
• US$17 a month with an annual subscription (US$200 billed up front).

Those web prices don't include tax.

What the free plan already includes

Claude's free plan includes:

• chat on web, desktop and mobile
• web search
• memory across conversations
• voice mode
• file creation
• up to 5 Projects

What Pro adds

• More usage: at least 5x more per 5-hour session than Free, according to Anthropic.
• More features: unlimited Projects, the Research feature, more Claude models, and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365.

Who it's worth it for

• Worth it: you write or summarise long documents most days and keep hitting the limit.
• Probably not: you use it occasionally. The free plan is enough for our recipes.

Common questions

How do Claude's usage limits work?

Anthropic says limits reset on a rolling five-hour window, and paid plans also have weekly limits. There's no fixed message count; it depends on the length of your chats and the features you use.

Can I switch back to free?

Yes. Anthropic says that when you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the billing period, then moves to Free, and your chats stay in your account.
